Work of Peter Roux Opens New Series at Kiitos Fine Art Beginning in September

Kiitos Fine Art presents the debut of its new Artist Focus Series from Wednesday, September 23, through Sunday, September 27, featuring the artwork of Peter Roux. The monthly series will spotlight gallery artists in turn, with an exhibition of their work as well as events that allow visitors to the gallery to hear stories about inspirations and techniques, and to engage in conversation with the artist.

The paintings that Roux will have on display this month have all been created since Hurricane Helene. “While I don’t consider them to be any direct response to the storm itself and its damage, I do think they contain that experience in some way,” Roux says. “This will be one of the first times this exists as a common thread in the showing of a group of my work.”

Two discussions with Roux, followed by live music in the gallery, will be presented: on Wednesday, September 23, from 5 to 8:30 p.m., and on Saturday, September 26, from 3:30–7:30 p.m. Wednesday’s music presentation will be William Elan DeHaro playing Spanish guitar, and on Sunday, cellist Grant Peterson will perform. Refreshments will be provided.

Roux plans to speak about a recent series of landscape/abstraction split-panel compositions that he has been working on for the last two years. “I think conversations with artists can be so revealing, as a way of more deeply experiencing the work they create,” he says. “While I don’t believe they are necessary to experience art, they can supply more depth to those who might be drawn to digging deeper into the work. That idea of digging deeper runs both ways as well; as an artist, listening to others articulate how they respond to my work can create new pathways for my own understanding of it.”

Artists whose work will be a part of the Focus Series in coming months are Genevieve Beatty (October 14–18), Raymond Byram (November 11–15) and Patricia Sweet (December 2–6).

Kiitos Fine Art is located at 146 Roberts Street, #104, in Asheville’s River Arts District. Hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. To learn more, visit KiitosFineArt.art
