At Ballet Conservatory of Asheville, world-class teachers instruct children, teens, and adults in programs that cover nearly all major dance styles, including ballet, modern, tap, and jazz, among others. The preprofessional company has earned a national reputation through its summer and year-round offerings.
“Our goal when opening the Conservatory was to have a place in Asheville for people who seriously wanted to train in classical ballet,” says director Angie Lynn, who cofounded the Conservatory with husband Chris in 2009. In the summer, open classes and workshops are available for dancers as young as five.
Angie received training at London’s prestigious Arts Educational Schools and has danced with the Vienna Festival Ballet and other companies. With a background in Broadway musical theater, Chris serves as managing director. Wayne Burritt is ballet master at the Conservatory.
In addition to classical ballet, modern dance is also a focus for preprofessionals. Performances take place at Diana Wortham Theatre. The preprofessional company’s Winter Works: Innovations and Variations is set for Friday, March 11, at 7 p.m. and the spring ballet, Paquita, runs June 3–4.
