To benefit children with Down syndrome, the Western North Carolina Down Syndrome Alliance (WNCDSA) will host its sixth Flip Flop Hop, “A Tropical Gala,” beginning at 7 p.m. on February 13 at the Orange Peel. There will be live reggae and beach music by Asheville’s own Dashboard Blue, great food, and both live and silent auctions. This will be a Valentine’s weekend you will remember for a long, long time. And flip flops are optional!
All proceeds from this always fun event will go to support the WNCDSA’s education, advocacy, and special projects such as annual camp and enrichment program scholarships, monthly parent meetings, and more.
WNCDSA is a local nonprofit organization that assists families in the 17-county Western North Carolina area. The overall mission of the group is to help create a community that is educated, supportive, and inclusive of individuals with Down syndrome.
In addition to the Flip Flop Hop, WNCDSA sponsors other social events throughout the year: a family picnic at Fletcher Park in June, a “Buddy Walk” in October, and a Thanksgiving celebration—all opportunities for families to gather and have fun.
