The March concerts to be presented by Pan Harmonia feature sonic counterparts—the bassoon and the saxophone. These performances will include three world premiere works dedicated to saxophonist Alan Theisen, as well as works for bassoon, sax, and piano. The music can best be described as romantic, earthy, and varied.
The new pieces all focus on expressions of nature: Cicada Song by Everette Minchew, River Songs by Clare Shore, and Absence Wild by Garrett Ian Shatzer. In addition, Alan and bassoonist Rosalind Buda will perform together in duo and in trio with pianist Ivan Seng, featuring a concerto for bassoon and saxophone by French composer Marguerite Roesgen-Champion.
The concerts will be at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 8, at Mars Hill University’s Broyhill Chapel; at 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 13, at Asheville First Presbyterian Church; and at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, March 20, at Isis Restaurant & Music Hall.
Directed by flutist Kate Steinbeck and based in Asheville, artist collective Pan Harmonia brings professional chamber music performances to audiences of all ages in diverse settings ranging from traditional concert halls to homeless shelters and prisons.
