Artists, Tom Reardon and Kathleen Doyle

Participating in the exhibitions at Grovewood Gallery will be artists Tom Reardon and Kathleen Doyle, jewelers and master metalsmiths for more than four decades, as well as studio artists at Grovewood since 1995. Their exhibit will feature their jewelry handcrafted using precious and non-precious metals, and inspired by the landscapes and cityscapes of Western North Carolina.

Also taking part will be metalsmith Audrey Laine Sawyer, a graduate of Haywood Community College’s Professional Crafts Program who works out of her North Asheville studio. Her pop-up exhibit will showcase her nature-inspired, pierced hollow-form and lost-wax cast jewelry in brass, bronze, and sterling silver.

Artist demonstrations begin on May 18 from noon to 4 p.m. with Introduction to Anticlastic Forging with Alice Scott. An Asheville jeweler, Alice will present her silversmithing technique in which she uses hammers to stretch and distort the metal. She is represented by Grovewood’s sister gallery, Gallery of the Mountains, located inside The Omni Grove Park Inn.

From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on May 20, Tom Reardon will present Technology in Jewelry Design. He will talk about jewelry design using CAD software and will screen a short video, walking you through all the steps from sketch to finished piece.

And on May 20–21 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Kathleen Doyle will offer Enameling Jewelry Components, demonstrating enameling on cast sterling silver and sheet copper. She will also discuss the lost-wax casting process.

Grovewood Gallery is located at 111 Grovewood Road, adjacent to the Omni Grove Park Inn. To learn more, visit grovewood.com or call 828.253.7651.
