Brevard Music Center’s Summer Festival Celebrates Its 80th Anniversary
Over a span of ten weeks this summer, musicians from around the world will once again gather in Western North Carolina to perform great musical works. This marks the 80th anniversary of the Brevard Music Center’s Summer Festival. These musicians will be under the direction of Brevard Music Center alumnus and artistic director Keith Lockhart.
Audiences will be treated to performances by some of the most celebrated names in music—from classical superstars to pop legends to acclaimed blues artists. Each summer, more than 31,000 people enjoy an incredible array of music in this beautiful lakeside, open-air venue. The Summer Festival begins June 3 and runs through August 7.
Just one of this month’s highlights will be on Friday, June 24, with “An American in Paris” featuring poet and pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet for an evening of French-inspired music. Things don’t slow down a bit, as the next evening’s 80th Anniversary Spectacular concert stars six-time Grammy Award-winner Amy Grant. Another special event will be Tuesday, June 28, when Brevard Music Center presents Béla Fleck in concert with his “newgrass” artistry, made even more fun with some of his favorite bluegrass duets with wife Abigail Washburn.
Other June concerts will be:
- June 3–4: Brevard Blues Festival
- June 11: Jazz at Brevard
- June 23: Opera’s Greatest Hits
- June 26: Shostakovich 5
- June 27: Brevard Music Center Faculty
- June 29: Student Piano Recital
- June 29: BMC Artist Faculty II
- June 30 and July 2: World Premiere of dramatic opera noir Falling Angel
