Kristen Edge. Andreina Bates, artist

For Kristen Edge, art has always been a way to communicate ideas that could not be expressed fully with words alone. “I think we come into the world as expressive beings full of creative capacities,” she says.

Almost exactly one and a half years ago, Kristen opened the collaborative arts studio and gallery ArtPlay, where she offers people of all ages a place to create, learn and connect. “Watching people reconnect with their innate creative capacities has been absolutely joyful,” she says. “I witness people letting go and trusting their own process, where they aren’t thinking about whether something is good.” Edge gives her students permission to be imperfect. “You can only get to your own creative expression by letting go of judgement,” she says. “I believe play is the thing that gets us there.”

ArtPlay is located at 372 Depot Street in the River Arts District. Learn more at ArtPlay-Studio.com.
