Above Broke Holler
July Concerts at OOAK Art Gallery
Blending their voices and guitar styles, Kim and Pete McWhirter form the duo known as Broke Holler. Over the last decade, they’ve performed their songs of love, loss, and inspiration in concerts across the state, from Ocracoke to Bryson City. One of a Kind Art Gallery (OOAK) and the adjacent coffeehouse Maples in Micaville will present Broke Holler in concert at the gallery from 7–9 p.m. on Thursday, July 7.
Both musicians are potters in Yancey County, where they grew up. They continue the McWhirter family business, which has been in operation since 1963. Their recently released second album, titled Mountain Songbrook, is a collection of mountain favorites including songs made famous by Doc and Merle Watson, Dr. Ralph Stanley, and the Carter Family.
Other July concerts include Ragged But Right on July 14 and Carpathian Spruce on July 28.
