Black Mountain Center for the Arts: Two Birds One Stone
The Front Porch Theatre at the Black Mountain Center for the Arts is proud to announce the debut of Two Birds One Stone, an original children’s play from the same team that brought the community The Hive and Jump! Performances will be Friday and Saturday, August 19–20, at 6:30 p.m., and Sunday, August 21, at 2 p.m.
In Two Birds One Stone, everyone in the Little household feels out of sorts when their cousins come to visit. Mother is on pins and needles, ornithologist Grandpa feels a need to lecture, and young Hunter has a hard time convincing his relatives that being outdoors can be as much fun as playing video games. Featuring a talking cat and a Greek chorus of birds amplifying the action, this play will appeal to the whole family.
“We are delighted to have so many local children from previous productions returning this summer to accept the challenge of Two Birds One Stone,” says Jessica Klarp, who wrote the play. “There is so much talent here in Black Mountain and we are especially lucky for the support of the whole creative team that works hard to make our children’s productions rich and entertaining.”
Jessica’s sixth play to be produced in North Carolina, Two Birds One Stone is choreographed by Amy Maze, scored by Zach Cooper, and stage managed by Grace Carter with costumes by Leslie Juchna. Amy teaches dance classes at the Arts Center, leads the BMCA Dance Troupe, spearheads Summer Arts Camp sessions, and is sought after for her musical choreography. Zach is a professional musician who released his album The Sentence in March and has composed original music for St. Michael’s College, The Vermont Contemporary Music Ensemble, and the New York Botanical Gardens.
Featuring a bird theme to tie in with an upcoming BMCA “For the Birds” awareness event, Two Birds One Stone uses humor to examine the consequences of our actions, large and small. The Front Porch Theatre is asking for a donation at the door, $10 for adults and $5 for children.
