Asheville Chamber Music Society’s New Season

“Fearlessly Imaginative” Ying Quartet Opens 64th ACMS Season

The Grammy Award-winning Ying Quartet, now in its second decade, will open the new season of the Asheville Chamber Music Society (ACMS). Their concert will be at 8 p.m. on Friday, September 23, at Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 1 Edwin Place in Asheville. The group, based in Rochester, New York, is comprised of Robin Scott (violin) and siblings Janet (violin), Phillip (viola), and David Ying (cello). The New York Times described one of the quartet’s performances as “sustained quietude, peacefulness and serenity.”

The group is deeply committed to education, and the quartet has enjoyed residencies at Brevard Music Festival, Bowdoin Summer Music Festival, Northwestern University, and Harvard University.

The members of the quartet describe themselves as “fearlessly imaginative,” believing that concert music should and can be an important and integral part of everyday life. This has led them to perform concerts in such diverse locations as workplaces, schools, juvenile prisons, and the White House.

The ACMS 2016-2017 season will also include performances by Aspen String Trio (November 11), Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet (February 12), Jerusalem String Quartet (March 17), and the Weiss-Kaplan-Stumpf Piano Trio (April 7).

As one of the nation’s oldest continuously performing chamber music organizations, ACMS has long been recognized not only for its programs, but also for its unique educational collaboration with the strings programs in local schools and with other cultural partners throughout the community.

Season tickets are $150, and individual concert tickets are $38–40 (depending on the venue). For more information and to purchase tickets, visit ashevillechambermusic.org or email support@ashevillechambermusic.org.
