Works by a local glassblower and photographer are on display for the month of September at F.W. Front Gallery at Woolworth Walk. There is an opening reception and art walk on Friday, September 2, from 5–7 p.m.

The gift a glassblower gives us is beauty made by breath. And the works of Asheville glass artist Kyle Keeler are nothing less than breathtaking. Glass color is not made from paints, glazes, or dyes, but is born from earthen metals and minerals, which react differently to the slightest variance in temperature.

“When the glass is molten, I shape it with my breath, gravity, and other rods of clear glass,” says Kyle, who moved to this area from Colorado in 2007. “I actually draw with colored glass rods, layering and melting them into the clear glass until I get the design and color I am trying to create.”

In contrast, Rob Travis captures moments with a glass lens. A professional photographer based in Transylvania County, Travis shows us the marvels and beauty of our homeland, recording natural wonders and scenic vistas.

“I explore nature’s beauty constantly—up a mountain, down to a waterfall, and out to my own backyard,” says Rob. “I photograph the majestic and the minute, all focused on capturing the spirit within. At the end of the day, I want my photography to take my viewers out there with me, on their own journey, through my art.” He recently opened the Blue Moon Gallery in Cedar Mountain.

F.W. Front Gallery at Woolworth Walk is located at 25 Haywood Street in Asheville. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday though Thursday; 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information visit woolworthwalk.com or call 828.254.9234.
