The 34th Annual Asheville Quilt Show

Asheville Quilt Show Set Is September 30 Through October 2

The 34th annual Asheville Quilt Show will be held in the Davis Center at the WNC Agricultural Center Friday, September 30, through Sunday, October 2. More than 360 quilts will be on display and judges will award more than $10,000 in prize money. Participants can see a wearable art fashion show and learn various quilting techniques including machine quilting, machine and hand embroidery, appliqué, and English paper piecing.

“The Asheville Quilt Show is especially for anybody that loves art, design and skilled craftsmanship,” says Jeremy Lerner, publicity chair. There will be demonstrations and 27 vendors selling everything from sewing machines to thread to fabrics, patterns, and sewing books.

New this year is a kids sewing station for ages five through 16, which offers a hands-on experience in making your own unique pillow to take home and enjoy. “As a Guild, it is our mission to serve our younger generation of future sewers and quilters and encourage the ‘art of sewing,’” says Asheville Quilt Guild member Oksana Stark, who designed the station.

Two teams will compete to create quilt tops in under 45 minutes. Participants will learn how to use a “Jelly Roll” (a roll of long strips of fabric with changing patterns and designs) to create a unique quilt top. The resulting tops will be made into finished quilts and donated to the Asheville Quilt Guild outreach activity “Community Quilts.” Other activities include a silent auction and an opportunity quilt to raise money for Guild activities.

Tickets are $7 for adults; kids under 13 years of age get in free. A multi-day pass is $12. Event hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The kids sewing station is open Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
