New Morning Gallery, a staple of Asheville’s Biltmore Village, will celebrate its grand reopening on Friday, June 20, following a soft opening in May.
The building that houses the gallery was inundated with 11 feet of water during Hurricane Helene. “Fortunately for New Morning Gallery, only the lobby and a small footprint on the main floor were affected,” says director of operations Neal Reed. “The main gallery space upstairs was spared any damage.”
New Morning Gallery showcases the work of more than 500 American artisans, offering a broad spectrum of mediums, from ceramics and glass to textiles, wood and mixed media. Reed says that the gallery’s resilience can be attributed to relationships cultivated over many years. “Our long-standing relationships with our contractors, employees and community partners have offered a collective of support without which I doubt we’d have survived,” he says.
The event will feature music and refreshments as well as exhibits and the opportunity to meet featured local artists Joy Moser, painter; Sue Hintz, potter; Randy Hintz, woodworker; and Sarah Garrard, glass artist.
The gallery’s reopening signals more than just the restoration of a beloved institution; it also symbolizes the broader revitalization of Asheville’s arts community and Biltmore Village, which continue to recover and rebuild.
“Having seen the resilience of our larger community, and the determination of fellow businesses and property owners here in Asheville, we feel inspired for what’s coming in the next months and years,” says Reed. “Businesses are opening, property owners are rebuilding and our local and state governments are putting real, positive efforts into making our town and region an example of recovery and success.”
