The Asheville Gallery of Art presents Blooming Connections, an exhibition featuring the work of Olga Michelson and Susan Voorhees. Blooming Connections is on display for the entire month of July, with an opening reception on Friday, July 11, from 5—7:30 p.m.

“My work is deeply inspired by the dynamic interplay of color and pattern—elements that breathe energy and rhythm into the composition,” says Voorhees. “I’m fascinated by how these visual components can transform the familiar into something poetic. Through my paintings, I hope to evoke a sense of wonder and connection, inviting viewers to slow down, look closer and discover their own narratives within the work.”
Voorhees will display a new series of pastels that explore “the delicate balance between pattern and the play of light and shadow,” she says. “The collection includes both still lifes and landscapes, each one an intimate study of form and atmosphere. Together, they reflect my ongoing interest in capturing the quiet beauty found in everyday scenes.”

The subjects and colors in Michelson’s still lifes are similar to that of Voorhees’ pastels, so the artists’ works will complement each other.
“Still life is my first love as a genre,” says Michelson, who started painting when she was a child. “Still life is not just a group of subjects organized nicely—it’s things that are meaningful and important and beautiful.”
