Bee Adams Fills Asheville Gallery of Art with Color and Community Spirit in August

The Asheville Gallery of Art will feature painter Bee Adams in a solo show titled Vibrant Expressions, running from Friday, August 1, through Sunday, August 31. The opening reception will take place on August 1 from 5–7:30 p.m.

Adams, who spent more than 40 years in the Denver art scene before settling in Asheville 13 years ago, is known for her bright, expressive paintings that transform familiar landscapes into emotional, color-rich experiences. The pieces on view in this exhibit honor the autumn season in Western North Carolina and the communal strength that has defined the region in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

“Our trees in fall are a delightful subject allowing me to explore color even more,” says Adams. “I push color and want it as bright as I can get it. The growth and support of trees together in a forest is so like our community and is symbolic both in the loss and in the resilience experienced in our community.”

Much of the inspiration for this collection comes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, where Adams and her husband like to spend time, especially in the fall. “There were times when we would take quick daily drives to observe the changes in the mountainsides,” says Adams. “It is such a marvel to drive or hike and take in the amazing landscape and rich, vibrant colors. Damage to our forests and Parkway have been significant and our long drives on the Parkway are currently prevented, but I want to honor that time with this series and look forward to the return of access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and its forests.”

The paintings in Vibrant Expressions reflect a longing for place and a celebration of recovery. “These pieces were selected to represent the color of fall and the sense of close community and I hope that people are inspired and feel the joy of our resilience,” Adams says.
