Marion Welcomes Fall With Annual Mountain Glory Festival
The 33rd Annual Mountain Glory Festival will fill Marion’s streets with arts and crafts, food and old-time mountain music on Saturday, October 8, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Steve Bush, executive director of the McDowell Chamber of Commerce, calls it one of the largest festivals in Western North Carolina, with 140 vendors represented. “We have crafters from all over the region and bordering states that return annually to showcase their handmade arts,” he says, adding that the festival also highlights Marion’s downtown and area attractions.
Traditional bands, local favorites and gospel comprise the musical entertainment presented throughout the day. Chikomo Marimba, a Zimbabwean-style interactive band, will encourage audience participation and dance from all ages. The Lake Lure Cloggers will also perform.
The Children’s Arena—with hands-on activities, a Monkey Bridge to climb and a best-dressed pet contest—rounds out the day’s activities.
The Mountain Glory Quilt Show, the McDowell Arts Council Association’s featured exhibit, will display dozens of quilts and quilted pieces during the festival and throughout the month.
The free festival will be held in downtown Marion. For more information, visit mtngloryfestival.com or call 828.652.3351.
