Pan Harmonia Brings Flute and Harp Duet to House Concert

Asheville’s own chamber music company Pan Harmonia performs works by French, Brazilian and Polish composers this month with an Asheville performance set for Friday, October 14 at 5:30 p.m. The concert takes place at a private home in downtown Asheville, with wine and light fare provided.

Directed by flutist Kate Steinbeck, Pan Harmonia offers a mosaic of concerts that combine signature performances with masterpieces by famed composers. The October performances feature the works of French composer Gabriel Fauré, Brazilian master Osvaldo LaCerda, Polish original Witold Lutoslawski and Americans Lowell Liebermann and Alan Hovhaness.

Research has shown both the harp—the oldest stringed instrument—and the flute to be effective at relaxing the mind. These instruments are known to aid the brain’s ability to synchronize with the musical beats, encouraging alpha brianwaves, which are present when we are relaxed and conscious.

Pan Harmonia’s October series welcomes iconic harpist Jacquelyn Bartlett, who is a master of chamber music and has worked alongside numerous famous composers. Joining Steinbeck onstage for four regional performances, Bartlett is a member of the artist faculty at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. The duo will appear in Lenoir, Chapel Hill and Greenville, SC, with this Asheville stop along the way. “Experience a sound bath, let the music carry you away along with a delicious glass (or two) of wine,” says Steinbeck.

The Asheville concert takes place in a private downtown loft, offering a personal element to the performance. “House concerts provide the listener a most intimate experience with the music and the musicians,” says Bartlett. “It is thrilling to see, feel and hear the music up close!”

Tickets for the house concert are $30, which includes wine and light food, and can be purchased online at panharmonia.org or by sending a check (with 7 percent NC tax included) to Pan Harmonia, PO Box 18342, Asheville, NC 28814. The venue address will be sent upon receipt of ticket payment.
