Art Lovers Invited to Tour Weaverville’s Art Scene
The Weaverville Art Safari, rated among the top studio art tours in the Asheville area for the last few years, will be held Saturday and Sunday, October 29–30, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This free event provides self-guided tours of the studios and exhibits of 41 artists. Works include painting, photography, fine art, ceramics, pottery, metals, jewelry, fiber art, glass, woodworking, mixed media and sculpture.
“We will have more of our artists displaying in a downtown Weaverville location this time,” says Cindy Ireland, board president for the event and owner of Roundhouse Studios. She credits an all-volunteer organization of artists with successful runs of this biennial event for 17 years.
“Each tour we look forward to seeing familiar faces of longtime supporters and also to welcoming new visitors to our studio and town,” says Beth Mangum, who owns and operates Mangum Pottery along with her husband Rob. They are among the artists who have participated in the tour since its inception. The tour contributes, Mangum says, to Weaverville’s “vibrant community.”
All participating artists have works for sale, and visitors are encouraged to explore at their own pace and to interact with artists in their studios. Some artists will offer door prizes. Event maps will be available at various locations and will be handed out during the weekend. “We love it when we hear our attendees say that they come to our area just for the Art Safari,” says Ireland.
The Weaverville Art Safari is a nonprofit corporation of member artists residing in northern Buncombe County. Two tours are held each year—one in spring and one in fall.
