Red House Gallery Opening, First Friday, and Rocking Chair Auction

Don’t miss an exciting evening benefiting Swannanoa Valley Fine Arts League held at Red House Gallery and the neighboring Monte Vista Hotel in Black Mountain on Friday, November 4. Three fabulous events will take place under the foliage of the ‘Little Town that Rocks,’ giving you the opportunity to support local artists and businesses from Western North Carolina.

From 5–7 p.m., catch the opening of the special Looking Back exhibition at the Red House Gallery. The exhibit contains works that have not been submitted by the membership for the past two years. SVFAL artist Cindy Chenard says this “opportunity to review past events, return in thought and glance back is an appropriate close to an event-filled, stellar year” for the 49-years-strong SVFAL.

Next door, you can find the Monte Vista Hotel’s monthly First Friday event exhibiting the annual “Fabulous Fakes” art show, which showcases SVFAL pieces inspired by famous artists from the past such as da Vinci, van Gogh and Pollock. This show runs through January 31, 2017.

Round out the evening with a stroll to the Monte Vista’s front gazebo for hors d’oeuvres, wine and a chance to view and purchase beautiful hand-painted rocking chairs from local artists at the famous Rocking Chair Auction.

“This is the fourth year of the Black Mountain Swannanoa Chamber of Commerce’s ‘The Little Town That Rocks’ marketing campaign,” says Chamber of Commerce administrator Glenda Morrow. “Providing rocking chairs for visitors to enjoy has brought many visitors to our small town and enhanced their enjoyment of our friendly community.” The auction begins at 4 p.m. and lasts until 7 p.m. Proceeds benefit the SVFAL and Black Mountain Chamber of Commerce.

Attendance at all events is free. Find more information at exploreblackmountain.com.
