Fourth Odyssey Auction Features Best and Brightest
Odyssey ClayWorks’ fourth annual Odyssey Auction will take place at the Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts in the River Arts District on Saturday, November 5, from 7–9 p.m. More than 140 items by emerging and well-known artists—including Daniel Johnston, Mac McCusker and Suze Lindsay—will be available.
“Due to its 22-year history, Odyssey has established great working relationships with a number of major names in the field,” says Gabriel Kline, director of Odyssey Center for Ceramic Arts. “The auction features work by the best and brightest mid-career and established clay artists in America. It is exciting to also see the work of up-and-coming and early-career artists participating in the studio’s residency program.”
More than 200 guests are expected at the event, which features both a silent and live auction. In addition to ceramics, the auction will offer two-dimensional work, including painting and photography, as well as gift certificates to local restaurants, weekend cabin getaways and experiences at the Biltmore House. “While the event is a terrific fundraiser that supports the Odyssey Scholarship Fund, it’s a great party, too!” says Kline. “It includes live music and dancing, terrific food from local chefs and a chance to meet and talk to the artists in person.”
All proceeds benefit the Odyssey Scholarship Fund, whose mission is to make Odyssey’s programs available to all members of the Asheville and surrounding communities regardless of their income levels. In addition to providing more than $7,000 in scholarships and tuition assistance to students, Odyssey ClayWorks offers a therapeutic program for Veterans suffering from PTSD, an award-winning children’s program and a nationally recognized professional development program for early-career ceramic artists.
Odyssey ClayWorks, a ceramic cooperative in the River Arts District, is at 236 Clingman Avenue, Asheville. Admission to the auction is free and a limited number of tickets are available at odysseyceramicarts.com. The studio will also participate in the RAD Studio Stroll, November 12–13.
