Tryon Painters & Sculptors
Tryon Painters and Sculptors (TP&S) presents Symphony of Color, an all-member exhibition opening Saturday, July 11, with a reception from 5–7 p.m. during Tryon’s monthly Second Saturday Art Stroll. As part of the day’s events, member artist Cornelia Scibetta will demonstrate using colored pencils on drafting film from 12–3 p.m. The exhibition runs through August 15.
As with each of the eight member exhibitions that TP&S holds throughout the year, visitors are invited to view each piece of art and then vote for their favorite for the People’s Choice Award. The winning artist makes a statement about the piece and receives recognition in publications and social media. Artists may submit one piece for each show.
Exhibitions spotlight artists’ works in various mediums including oil, watercolor, pottery, fabric, wood, clay and jewelry. “My process?” says TP&S member Jennifer Grabowski. “Turn the brain off, let it go and just paint what makes me happy.”
While visiting the gallery, visitors may also stop in the Gallery Store. Approximately 110 of TP&S’s 280 artist members are currently represented in the store. All artwork in gallery exhibits and in the Gallery Store is available for purchase, with a range of prices for every budget and a variety to satisfy all art enthusiasts.
Titles and themes for each exhibition are suggested and agreed upon by members of TP&S, a nonprofit founded in 1968. The next exhibition, Visual Vibrations, opens August 22.
The Tryon Painters and Sculptors gallery, gift shop and classrooms are located at 78 North Trade Street, Tryon. Hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tryon Painters & Sculptors stays open until 7 p.m. during the town’s 4th Friday of each month.
