As part of its monthly Artist Focus Series, Kiitos Fine Art presents the work of Genevieve Beatty (The Laurel’s cover artist for October) Wednesday, October 14, through Sunday, October 18. The focus on Beatty’s work will include a dedicated exhibition during this time as well as informal events that allow the public to meet and engage with the artist and hear live music in the gallery. On October 14, Beatty will present a discussion of her work from 5–6:30 p.m., with music by Cuban jazz pianist Iliana Rose. Beatty will speak again on Saturday, October 17, from 3:30-5 p.m. Music by guitarist Paul Hutchison follows from 5:30–7:30 p.m.

“I believe the Artist Focus event will allow art lovers to gain a deeper appreciation for Genevieve’s talent and vision, particularly in the thoughtful selection of images she uses to convey her messages,” says gallery owner J. Fred Stack. “Her breadth of knowledge about mythological stories from throughout history provides an inspirational foundation for much of her work.”
Guests at both events will have opportunities to ask questions and engage with Beatty. “Art lovers who are interested in learning more about the techniques and creative processes in producing large-scale pieces filled with meaning and inspiration will not be disappointed,” says Stack.
Beatty paints on large canvases, and months go into the planning of each piece, followed by months of painting. “That gives me the time to work in layers, build up the paint, and lets me focus on technique,” she says. “It also lets me strive for satisfying detail without feeling rushed or exasperated.” Telling stories in a way that blends old tales and contemporary themes distinguishes Beatty’s work. “I think the thing that keeps me painting is having something to say with each painting,” she says.
Offering opportunities for artist and art enthusiasts to be in conversation is the essence of what Kiitos Fine Art hopes to accomplish with this monthly series and future gallery events. “Asheville is home to many wonderful galleries featuring talented artists, but we wanted to create something different: a space that focuses on local talent while giving customers meaningful opportunities to connect with the artists themselves,” Stack says. “Getting to know the artists can deepen your appreciation not only for them but also for their work. Understanding the story, inspiration and background behind a piece can make it feel even more personal and meaningful as it becomes part of your home for years to come.”
Upcoming artists in the series are Raymond Byram (November 11–15) and Patricia Sweet (December 2–6).
