The Asheville Museum of Science (AMOS) invites the community to celebrate A Decade of Discovery at its signature annual fundraiser, Under the Stars, on Friday, November 6, at 6:30 p.m., at Highland Brewing Company’s Event Center. The evening will feature retired NASA astronaut John Casper, live music, interactive science experiences, local food, and premier auctions—all in support of science education and the museum’s future.
This year’s celebration marks 10 years of inspiring curiosity, encouraging discovery, and making hands-on science accessible to children, families, and lifelong learners throughout Western North Carolina.
Special guest speaker John Casper, a retired NASA astronaut and U.S. Air Force Colonel, will share insights from his career in space exploration and the importance of curiosity, innovation, and discovery. Guests will also enjoy live music from Cloud Circuit, engaging science demonstrations, food prepared by Daymakers of Swannanoa, and an exciting selection of silent and live auction experiences.
Celebrating the Past, Investing in the Future
More than an anniversary celebration, Under the Stars is an opportunity for the community to invest in the museum’s mission and its next chapter of growth.

“Over the past decade, AMOS has grown into an important educational and community resource, connecting children, families, and lifelong learners with the wonders of science,” says Amanda Bryant, executive director of AMOS. “Under the Stars is a celebration of what our community has helped us build, but it is also about what’s next. As we prepare to expand our museum in downtown Asheville, the support we receive today will help us create more opportunities for discovery, strengthen our educational programs, and ensure science learning remains accessible to communities throughout Western North Carolina.”
AMOS serves approximately 60,000 people annually through museum visits, school field trips, educational programs, and community outreach reaching all counties of Western North Carolina and the Qualla Boundary. Through hands-on exhibits and engaging educational experiences, AMOS connects classroom learning with real-world science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM).
As the museum prepares for a significant expansion in downtown Asheville, AMOS is working to create new exhibits, expanded learning spaces, and additional opportunities for children, adults, educators, and visitors. The expansion represents an investment not only in science education but also in the vitality of downtown Asheville, creating more reasons for families, residents, school groups, and visitors to explore downtown and support surrounding businesses.
Proceeds from Under the Stars will help sustain AMOS’s educational mission, including accessible museum experiences, school field trips, community outreach, engaging exhibits, and the resources needed to grow the museum’s impact.
Under the Stars is presented by Hedrick Industries, alongside generous community sponsors and partners whose support makes AMOS’s work possible.
