An Evening with FREE PLANET RADIO and special guests, Adam Maalouf and Aparna Keshaviah
September 8, 2024 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm
$25
Asheville’s acclaimed global-jazz duo, Free Planet Radio, will perform live at the newly relaunched White Horse Black Mountain, on the afternoon of Sunday, September 8th, 2024, joined by virtuosic multi-instrumentalist, Adam Maalouf, and classically trained Bharatanatyam dancer and innovative movement artist, Aparna Keshaviah.
Free Planet Radio is a dynamic and genre-defying band that blends elements of jazz, world music, and improvisation into a gorgeous and exciting musical experience. Comprising of world-renowned musicians, River Guerguerian on percussion and Chris Rosser on piano and multi-instruments, they are known for their rich and textured soundscapes, intricate rhythms, and virtuosic instrumentation. The band’s aim is always to transport listeners on a captivating journey while “exploring the infinite and seamless relationships between musical cultures through the universal language of sound.”
Originally a trio with twice Grammy-Award winning bass player, Eliot Wadopian, who passed away in 2021, Free Planet Radio continues to create and thrive as a duo. River Guerguerian and Chris Rosser remain deeply committed to the creative process, composing new music all the time and continually collaborating with an exciting array of curated guest artists both on and off the stage. With their extensive catalog of songs and new influences garnered from each collaboration, every performance is a wholly unique experience of musical exploration and improvisational brilliance that will wow you!
The upcoming concert on September 8th at the legendary White Horse Black Mountain will include both new and longtime-favorite original compositions by Free Planet Radio, joined on most pieces by virtuosic multi-instrumentalist, Adam Maalouf, who will also share songs from his extensive personal catalog. Adam Maalouf, who has been featured on prestigious stages around the world and studied with some of the greatest Master musicians alive, has been collaborating with River Guerguerian and Chris Rosser for over a dozen years whenever circumstances allow. On select pieces throughout the performance, their music will also be graced with extra dazzle by the talented Aparna Keshaviah, a dancer with extraordinarily agile and elegant movement and musical awareness. Aparna Keshaviah is an American-born daughter of south Indian immigrants and grew up training in the ancient artform of Bharatanatyam as well as contemporary Western modalities of movement. As a movement artist, she celebrates both her family’s ancestral roots and her experience as an American through hybridization and innovation.
