The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context.
All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted.

“Awakening Soul” Retreat at Kanuga
Acclaimed authors and spiritual leaders Mirabai Starr and Carmen Acevedo Butcher lead the annual “Awakening Soul” retreat, a weekend of connection, music and spiritual reflection at Kanuga in Hendersonville, NC, Thursday–Sunday, Nov. 5–8, 2026.
Retreat events include a screening of the film “The Last Ecstatic Days” with a panel discussion led by Aditi Sethi, and music by the Awakening Soul Ensemble with Lindsey Blount, River Guerguerian and Chris Rosser.
Attendance cost for “Awakening Soul” is calculated during online registration at kanuga.org/awakening, and is determined by participation type: full conference or commuter (no lodging), with or without meals. Financial assistance may be requested during checkout, and payment plans are available.
