The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. If you encounter difficulties submitting an event, please email amy@thelaurelofasheville.com.
Comedy at The Funk: Matty Ryan
Modelface Comedy Club brings the best local and touring comedians to Asheville! This week we have Chicago favorite Matty Ryan in The Cultura Room!
Matty is an NYC based (by way of Chicago) stand-up/actor/writer who was a New Face at the 2019 Just for Laughs Festival in Montreal, and taped two sets for Comedy Central’s Stand Up Featuring (2019; 2022). His recent television credits include FOX’s Empire, Netflix’s Soundtrack, and roles on NBC’s Chicago Fire and Chicago Justice. His other credits include MTV’s Acting Out, supporting roles in four indie films, including Who Gets The Dog opposite Alicia Silverstone, as well as on-camera work with The Onion Network.
As a standup, Matty has performed at New York Comedy Fest, SXSW Comedy Fest, San Francisco Sketchfest, High Plains Comedy Fest, STL Flyover Fest, and tours across the country. Also pls tell your folks he says hi
