The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. If you encounter difficulties submitting an event, please email amy@thelaurelofasheville.com.
CONQUER PAINTING IN OILS WITH PALETTE KNIVES! with Linda Krupp
In this workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of using a palette knife to paint! No previous experience with palette knife painting or oil paints is necessary. THIS CLASS HAS A SURPRISE TOPIC TOO!
Linda will give a brief overview of the use of the knife and explain and demonstrate several different techniques for using it in your paintings. She will also provide the initial reference photograph from which you will work – everyone will work from the same reference. If you are a fast worker, you will have a few other reference photos from which you can choose for a second painting!
Painting surfaces (canvas boards), solvents, gloves, palette knives, paper towels, etc. will be provided. Bring an apron if you are a messy painter! Also, bring a snack for a quick lunch break and a means of transporting your wet work of art home – we recommend a box or tray with low sides.
