The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context.
All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted.

Durable Seam Finishes for Everyday Clothes
Have you sewn a garment or two but are hoping to make garments that are stronger, longer lasting, and beautifully polished? This is the class for you. In this class participants will cover the best ways to ‘finish’ sewn seams in order to make them stronger and more-beautiful, even from the ‘wrong’ side!
Participants will learn different finishing techniques by making their own sample swatches including:
– Pinked Seams
– Zig Zag Stitch
– Serging*
– French Seams
– Flat Felled Seams
– Mock Flat Felled Seams
– Bias Binding
– Hong Kong Seam Finish
Participants will make sample swatches of each type of finish as time allows and get a chance to prioritize stiches based on interest. Walk away with a take-home technique guide, your sample swatches, and the skills to perfect your garments using a variety of seam finishes.
