The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. What would it feel like to create with no rules, no critique, and no pressure to make something “good”?
In this beginner-friendly half-day class, you’ll explore intuitive process painting as a way to reconnect with your natural creativity, quiet the inner critic, and experience the simple joy of creating freely. This is not a class about technique, realistic representation, or producing a finished piece for approval! Instead, you’ll be invited to follow color, movement, curiosity, and inspiration as they arise.
During this class, you’ll have the chance to play with tempera paint in a relaxed and encouraging space. You can begin without needing a plan or artistic experience, where students will follow simple prompts and enjoy the process without critique, comparison, or pressure.
This class is for anyone who can’t draw a stick figure, feels terrified of a blank white page, hasn’t picked up a paintbrush in years, or even established and successful artists! Whether you feel creatively blocked, curious, rusty, or simply ready to experience the pleasure of making marks without rules…this is the class for you!
