The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context.
All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted.

Gunfighter Paradise: Film Screening + Q&A with Filmmaker Jethro Waters ’13
Join UNC Asheville for a special screening of Gunfighter Paradise, followed by a Q&A with writer and director Jethro Waters ’13.
Set in North Carolina, Gunfighter Paradise is a darkly comedic and surreal exploration of the American South, following a hunter who returns home after the death of his mother and finds himself confronting mysterious visitors, unsettling visions and a rapidly unraveling reality. Written and directed by UNC Asheville alumnus Jethro Waters, the independent feature blends dark comedy, horror and Southern surrealism. Rotten Tomatoes
Following the film, Waters will join the audience for a conversation and Q&A about the film and his work as an independent filmmaker.
The screening will take place Thursday, October 23 at 7 p.m. in the Blue Ridge Room of UNC Asheville’s Highsmith Student Union. The event is co-hosted by the UNC Asheville Alumni Association and Department of Mass Communication and is open to alumni, students, faculty, staff and members of the greater Asheville community.
