The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. HOUSE OF WAX – MIXED MEDIA ENCAUSTIC HOUSES with Bridget Benton
Whether the houses you create are a symbol of sanctuary, an homage to family, a home for whimsical, or even a little kooky and creepy, you’ll have fun in this beginner-friendly workshop! Every participant will get two blocks of wood in rough-cut house shapes to embellish with mixed-media, collage, encaustic wax, and dimensional objects!
In this class, students will learn:
– Which mixed-media favorites play well with encaustic
– The basics of working with wax and applying encaustic to a three dimensional form
– How to collage into encaustic wax medium
– Different ways of attaching dimensional objects to an encaustic-coated form
This class is a fantastic introduction to the three-dimensional and sculptural potential of encaustic wax, and will demonstrate methods that can be carried over into ALL encaustic wax applications!
