The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context.
All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted.

Fischman Gallery Announces “Cross-Pollination”: A Celebration of Creative Partnership and Artistic Synergy
The Fischman Gallery is proud to present “Cross-Pollination”, an exhibition featuring the artwork of Debbie and James Griffin. The exhibition explores the multi-layered, collaborative nature of their creative partnership, highlighting the ways that these two artists inspire and shape each other.
“Cross-Pollination” brings together a vibrant dialogue of mediums and textures and ideas. The seeds of the exhibition were planted when Debbie brought a collection of her hand-woven scarves into James’ painting studio. Hung alongside freshly completed canvases, the unexpected harmony of the pieces sparked a revelation. The collection captures a creative cycle of shared ideas: the transition from canvas paintings to the tactile world of woven fibers, and back again. Visitors will experience how a simple woven grid can transform color into entirely new, unexpected, and harmonious dimensions.
The exhibition will also showcase a diverse range of responses to the world—from Debbie’s macro-views of light and shadow on the forest floor and her fish pond to James’ brightly colored interpretations of his inner and outer world.
Cross-Pollination” also honors the artists’ role as educators and grandparents and will include selected works by their grandchildren, honoring their belief that art is a shared expression of joy and uninhibited creativity.
The exhibition officially opens on Friday, October 2, 2026, at Fischman Gallery, located at 133 N Commerce St, Johnson City, TN. Members of the public, art collectors, and media representatives are invited to attend. The reception is from 6:30 – 9:00 and will be up for the month of October.
