The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. Orison Books’ 2024 Fundraiser Featuring Jacinda Townsend

Orison Books, a non-profit literary press based in Asheville, will be holding a fundraising event featuring award-winning novelist Jacinda Townsend at NC Stage Company on Saturday, August 3rd. Poets Bruce Beasley and Christian Detisch, as well as singer-songwriter Thomas Kozak, will also perform.
Jacinda Townsend is the author of three novels: Trigger Warning (forthcoming 2025); Mother Country, recipient of The Ernest Gaines Award for Literary Excellence; and Saint Monkey, recipient of The Janet Heidinger Kafka Prize and The James Fenimore Cooper Prize, and named the 2015 Honor Book of the Black Caucus of the American Library Association. She teaches in the MFA program at Brown University.
Orison Books, founded by local poet Luke Hankins, has a unique focus on literary work that engages the life of the spirit from a broad and inclusive range of perspectives. Their books have won national awards and have been featured in The New York Times Book Review, The New York Times Magazine, Publishers Weekly, Poets & Writers, Foreword Reviews, Booklist, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, The Chicago Tribune, Electric Literature, The Rumpus, Literary Hub, and many other venues.
A number of Orison Books titles will be available free of charge to attendees, and Malaprop’s Bookstore will be on hand to sell Townsend’s books.
