The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. If you encounter difficulties submitting an event, please email [email protected].

Pride Mini-Fly

Kick off Pride month with Firefly Gathering’s Pride Mini-Fly! Our Mini-Fly series offers a taste of everything Firefly is known for: earthskills, expert instructors, live music, local flavors, and bumpin’ DJ sets to celebrate our time together. After an awesome inaugural event in March at One World Brewing West, we are excited to have even more Firefly fun with y’all!
This two-part event has something for everyone.
Bring the whole family for an afternoon of earthskills, community connection and live music between 3pm and 7pm. Demos include Bone Craft with Josh Barnwell, Coppersmithing with Grant Adkisson, Fire Making with Jeff Gottlieb, Plant Identification with Marc Williams, Wood Carving with Nico Piedrahita, and more. After being inspired by our instructors, enjoy a traditional Cherokee dinner (available for separate purchase at the event). Finally, don your most festive “Gay-La” apparel as the sun sets to get down to the sounds of DJ Lakesolace for our 21+ dance party from 8pm – 10:30!
All proceeds from our Mini-Fly series support Firefly’s work to inspire and empower our community through year-round opportunities to connect with self, each other, and the natural world. Through events like these, we co-create a world where everybody can enjoy multi-generational perspectives, wisdom and earthskills to thrive.
