The Laurel of Asheville is a lifestyle magazine focused on the arts, culture, and communities of Western North Carolina, and submitted events should fall within this context. If your event occurs over several days, please submit multiple events. Events extending beyond a month will not be accepted. All submissions are subject to editorial approval and edits for clarity and style before being published online. If you are going to include a photograph, please be certain that you have the rights to utilize that image. If there is a question about image rights, we may remove the image. Also, images should be no larger than 2000 pixels wide. Large images will prevent the event from being submitted. Please allow up to 5 days for your even to be posted. WNC ACLU CHAPTER ANNUAL MEETING

O -- FREE NORTH CAROLINA ACLU’s WNC CHAPTER ANNUALMEETING AND CELEBRATION
SATURDAY, MAY 11, at 3:00 p.m.
The Western North Carolina Chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina will hold its Annual Meeting and Celebration at the Dr. Wesley Grant, Sr., Southside Community Center, 285 Livingston St., Asheville, at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11. The Public is welcome to attend to learn more about the work of the region’s ACLU chapter. New officers will be elected, and the Evan Mahaney Champion of Civil Liberties Award will be presented to local attorney Bruce Elmore, Jr., who has given decades of service to the ACLU. Elmore served for many years as president of the WNC Chapter board, previously served as president of the statewide ACLU-NC board, and has been a long-time member of the state ACLU-NC Legal Committee, among other contributions to the cause of civil liberties in North Carolina. Light refreshments will be served.
