The COVID-19 pandemic is having a profound and unprecedented effect on small business owners and organizations, and its negative consequences on arts, culture and tourism will be with us for some time. The Laurel of Asheville will continue to serve our Western North Carolina community by sharing information and resources, and by supporting businesses, organizations and artists in the best way we can during this time: by helping everyone stay connected and informed. However, we need you, our readers and community members, to help us weather this storm.
For 16 years, The Laurel of Asheville has brought news, events and features from Western North Carolina to our readers in 11 counties as a freely distributed publication and freely accessible website. We would like to keep it this way. We’ve already experienced a loss of revenue directly resulting from event cancellations and organization closures. On average, 98% of our budget comes from advertising. We need to shift this number significantly in the coming months, but we need your help NOW.
At a time when the arts, nonprofits and small businesses need coverage and visibility more than ever, we’re asking for your help to continue our work as the voice of arts and culture in Western North Carolina and to secure a sustainable future for this independent, local media company. You can help by making a one-time or recurring donation, or by subscribing to The Laurel of Asheville. We offer print and digital subscriptions.
Support Our Work
We know that many artists, arts and cultural organizations, and small businesses are anxious to get back to planning events in the coming months even while a timeline remains uncertain right now. The Laurel of Asheville is compiling a list of the innovative ways community members are finding to provide virtual experiences, livestream events and online classes and workshops, as well as offer help in their own unique and compassionate ways. The list will also contain resources to help everyone in this difficult time. We will update the list as new information and resources become available.
Stay safe, stay home, and know that we are so grateful for your support.
