Although Richard Yaffin opened Estate Jewelry Ltd. in 2006, his expertise in jewelry dates back decades to when he worked with his father and mentor, David L. Yaffin. David was a successful jewelry store owner skilled in the buying and selling of pre-owned diamonds and gems. Richard ran his father’s Florida store from the 1980s until 1999 when he sold the business. Shortly thereafter, he made plans to move to Asheville.
In 2014, Estate Jewelry moved to its new spot in one of the original 12 cottages of Biltmore Village. Richard is joined by Stephen Frommel, a GIA accredited jewelry professional. The shop showcases a selection of almost exclusively pre-owned diamonds and fine jewelry—including precious and semiprecious stones.
“We feel that shopping for jewelry shouldn’t be a task,” says Richard who promotes a casual and fun atmosphere. After a detailed inspection, accepted items can either be purchased outright or sold on a consignment basis, known as the diamond brokerage program.
