Jeffrey Burroughs Fine Jewelry & Design Studio has expanded into Asheville’s historic Phil Mechanic Building. The new River Arts District location is more than double the size of the previous studio.

“I wanted to bring some of our production into the studio, rather than having our workshop entirely separate, but I also dreamed of creating a much more complete experience around the pieces we make,” says owner and jewelry designer Jeffrey Burroughs.

Alongside fine jewelry and custom designs, the business has expanded into leather goods and fragrance, with additional creations planned for the coming year. The larger location brings those collections together with on-site production, a wine and champagne bar, and a retail wine program. The studio’s Friday evening Champagne & Shopping tradition also continues.

“This new space allows me to bring all of those ideas together through my point of view as an artist,” Burroughs says. “It’s part design studio, part boutique, part gathering place, with a wine bar woven into it.”

The Phil Mechanic Building’s history offers a fitting backdrop for that vision.

“I love old buildings because they already have stories embedded in them,” Burroughs says. “The spaces I create tend to reference different eras, so beginning with a building that already has history and character feels very natural to me.”

Moving some production into the district gives visitors opportunities to encounter the people and processes behind the studio’s work. The expansion also creates room for larger events and more intimate client experiences, giving customers reasons to visit beyond purchasing jewelry for a milestone or special occasion.

“Most importantly, it gives us another way to build relationships,” Burroughs says. “I want Jeffrey to be somewhere you might visit before dinner, on a Sunday afternoon or simply because it’s Wednesday and you want a beautiful place to spend some time.”
