For many creative types, browsing through a well-stocked fine art supply store is similar to a child’s visit to the candy shop: a dream come true. A one-stop shop that opened in July 2010, The Starving Artist in Hendersonville also provides on-site custom framing services, with more than 850 mouldings from which to choose.
With a background in graphic design, owner Matt Smith offers design and printing services for business cards, rack cards, and other promotional materials. Artists can bring in their original paintings and Matt can print giclée copies. He can also take professional photographs of artwork.
The inventory primarily caters to two-dimensional mediums, featuring canvases, paints, brushes, printmaking and drawing materials, encaustic wax, and easels, among other items. “We carry everything, from beginner supplies all the way up to professional grade products,” says Matt. There’s also a small selection of clay for pottery hobbyists.
Check out the coloring books and how-to manuals. Led by Costanza Knight, of Gravity Free Art, classes for kids and teens also take place at the shop.
The Starving Artist is located at 814 Kanuga Road in Hendersonville. For more information, visit wncstarvingartist.com or call 828.693.3191.
