Becky Lloyd, owner, left, and Rachel Shumate, manager
Becky Lloyd was a stay-at-home mom in Fairview in 1983 when she realized she had a calling. “I have a rich history of deaf family members—nine in fact—and felt that God wanted me to coordinate adoptions for deaf orphans,” she says. Becky realized she would need to establish a nonprofit to accomplish her goal. In 2011, Signs for Hope was born, and ten years later, Signs for Hope Marketplace became a way to support the charity’s mission.
“Initially, Marketplace inventory came from my trips to different countries,” Becky says. But when Becky’s daughter Rachel came on board last year as a part-time merchandiser, she increased the number of local vendors to more than 40. Each individual serving in the Marketplace is a volunteer, including Becky.
Signs for Hope Marketplace is located at 379 Old Charlotte Highway in Fairview. Learn more at Marketplace.SignsForHope.org.
