There’s Music for Everyone at Isis in June
With something for a wide variety of musical tastes, Isis Restaurant & Music Hall presents several great touring artists this month.
In addition to six albums to his credit, Nashville-based singer/songwriter Jon McLaughlin has collaborated with Sara Bareilles and Demi Lovato, among others, and has shared the stage with Kelly Clarkson, Adele, Bon Jovi, and OneRepublic. He says it was a dream come true a couple of years ago when he had the opportunity to support Billy Joel in concert. He has also provided songs for television and major Hollywood films. Jon will appear in concert at 8:30 P.M. on Wednesday, June 8. Tickets are $17 in advance, $20 at the door.
Live Ireland Radio’s “New Group of the Year” sisters Cassie and Maggie MacDonald are capturing the attention of Celtic music lovers everywhere. Cassie’s fiddle playing has been described as “sweet and elegant with just the right amount of power,” while Maggie on the piano complements Cassie perfectly. Cassie told The Laurel, “Maggie and I are so excited for our first ever trip to Asheville! We’ve heard so much about Asheville from other musician friends, about what an incredible ‘hotbed’ of talent it is.” Their concert is at 7 P.M. on Saturday, June 11. Tickets are $15.

Two award-winning singer/songwriters, Jesse Terry and Abbie Gardner are getting together for an unforgettable evening of duets and solos, trading songs, and backing each other up. Abbie, who was part of the songwriting faculty at the Swannanoa Gatherings in 2010 and 2011, is the fiery Dobro player from Red Molly, and Jesse is the always joyful teller of stories. This concert of folk, Americana, and bluegrass will be Wednesday, June 22, beginning at 9 P.M. Tickets are $15 in advance, $18 at the door.
Two up-and-coming groups combine for a great night of musical entertainment when Wisewater and The Snyder Family take the stage. Wisewater, from Nashville, is an exciting duo (Kate Lee and Forrest O’Connor) whose music is a delightful mixture of country, rock, and progressive acoustic melodies. The Snyder Family, a trio comprised of brother and sister (Zeb and Samantha) and their dad (Bud) credit their study of the masters for enabling them to seek their own musical expressions that, while innovative, remain rooted in tradition. Catch both these groups at 9 P.M. on Friday, June 24. Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door.

A couple of days later, the Bumper Jacksons take the Isis stage. Stephen D. Winick, writing for The Huffington Post, said of the group: “You may come for the jazz—clarinet and horns and swingy rhythms … but you’ll stay for all the other ingredients in their mélange—fiddles and guitars, bouncy banjo-ukes, weepy country pedal steel, rock-and-roll electric guitar, jug-band kazoo, and assorted percussion.” They truly have something for every musical taste. Their concert begins at 5:30 P.M. on Sunday, June 26. Tickets are $15.
