London District Studios will host Wistful Ways, an exhibit featuring the work of Asheville photographer Micah Mackenzie, beginning with an opening reception on Friday, November 18, from 5–10 p.m. and running through Tuesday, December 6. Mackenzie’s photography focuses on portraiture and people and is influenced by a desire to see beyond the surface of his subjects.
The pieces in Wistful Ways were photographed in an abandoned textile mill at Biltmore Industries’ historic industrial complex. “I chose the mill as my backdrop because I love the juxtaposition of the old and the new,” says Mackenzie. “The light there made it my dream Vermeer backdrop.”
Mackenzie’s work will be the first photography exhibit held at London District Studios, which opened in March. The venue is also a home furnishing store, integrating fine furniture and fine art to give visitors ideas for creating artful living spaces. Twenty-five percent of all sales during the event will benefit Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, Asheville’s no-kill animal rescue organization founded in 2007.
“Visitors to the exhibitions enjoy viewing extraordinary works of art in the relaxed, friendly atmosphere the London provides, and seeing the art juxtaposed with a highly curated selection of stylish home furnishings,” says Leslie Rowland, venue owner.
London District Studios is located at 8 London Road, Asheville. Hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, and 12–4 p.m. Sunday. For more information visit londondistrictstudios.com or call 760.855.8663.
