Grand Bohemian Gallery: Impactful Designs of Claudia Herr
Local silversmith and jewelry designer Claudia Herr brings her ornate yet minimalist collection, titled “Multiformity” to Grand Bohemian Gallery, 11 Boston Way in Biltmore Village, from September 14 through October 14. A reception for the artist will be held Saturday, September 24, from 5:30–8 p.m.
Claudia initially developed her craft of jewelry design from years of travel, exploration, and work in the field of interior home décor design. After moving to Asheville in 2007, she began attending lapidary school and working with a metalsmith until she found her own voice with silver, gold, and precious and semiprecious gemstones.
Part of the inspiration for her current body of work came from a failed attempt to accessorize. She says, “The evening when I couldn’t find a matching jewelry piece to my colorful, patterned outfit in my jewelry box, I decided I needed to create simpler, more streamlined pieces. I wanted to create a collection that really goes with everything without being too demanding.”
One of the techniques for which she is passionate about is fusing 22k gold to argentium sterling silver, creating a golden touch. Claudia is also introducing a men’s line by creating robust pieces with soft shapes and warm gold details
