Founded in 1960, Tryon Arts & Crafts School (TACS) is home to studios of numerous craftspeople working in fiber arts/weaving, jewelry making, lapidary, woodworking, forge work, pottery, glass, and more. Talented craft instructors teach year-round classes and workshops and internationally renowned artists visit to teach sold-out master workshops.
TACS hosts regular craft exhibitions in its gallery and sponsors an annual fall arts and crafts festival on its park-like grounds. It also operates an impressive gift shop featuring the one-of-a-kind works of Polk County artisans.
“The school is extraordinary in the variety of crafts offered, reasonable tuition, and the warm, welcoming creative community atmosphere,” says Cathy Jewell Fischer, executive director. “We are working with other arts organizations in our region to promote the rich culture of arts we have here.”
The school hosts a Wine & Crafts series the first Friday night of every month. June 16–18, Dale McEntire will teach Introduction to Stone Carving. A pottery show called “Little Clay One Way” runs June 18–29.
