The Southern Highland Craft Guild will host its annual Holiday Seconds Sale on December 3 and December 10 at the Folk Art Center. The sales will last from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with different artists present each day selling handcrafted gifts and home décor discounted up to 70 percent. Visitors can find an array of items including ceramic tableware, blown vases and ornaments, hand-woven and dyed wearables, bound journals and etched cards, turned wooden bowls and fine jewelry.
Marti Mocahbee is a clay artist who will be participating in the Holiday Seconds Sale. “What I bring to the Seconds Sale includes actual second pieces,” she says. “I refer to seconds as items with minor flaws and items with inconsistent outcomes in process. I also bring end-of-year overstock and experimental pieces.” Mocahbee offers these items at deeply discounted prices and the minor flaws are often only noticeable to her as the artist. “The Seconds Sale provides me with the opportunity to sell and get feedback on ideas in development,” she says. “It helps me to approach the new year fresh.”
Admission to the Holidays Seconds Sale events and the Folk Art Center is free. The Folk Art Center is located at Milepost 382 on the Blue Ridge Parkway in east Asheville.
