Folkmoot USA Extends Raffle of Original Art Through December 13

Too Much Going On. Nina Howard, artist

One of the many events disrupted by Hurricane Helene was a fundraising raffle for Folkmoot USA, culminating on September 26 when artist Nina Howard painted in front of an audience while soothing music played. With many art enthusiasts unable to attend because of severe weather at that time, Folkmoot decided to extend the raffle to give more people a chance to own Howard’s 36” x 48” acrylic painting.

She’ll Be Coming Down the Mountain. Nina Howard, artist

“I finished the painting onstage in the midst of a hurricane heading our way,” Howard says. “We were experiencing flash flooding from the rain and I aptly named it She’ll Be Coming Down the Mountain, as the aqua color was swirling above a mountain peak and it reminded me of water. This was done hours from Helene’s devastation and she surely did come down the mountain! Of course, my abstract work usually has no imagery, but I think I picked up on the collective consciousness of the ensuing devastation. Sometimes that is what intuitive artists do.”

Howard has been a long-time supporter of the non-profit Folkmoot and its many programs that share music and promote cultural education, and she will donate the piece, valued at $3,000, to be raffled off, with the winning ticket drawn the week of December 16. Tickets are $5 each or five for $20, and all proceeds go directly to Folkmoot. Tickets will be sold through the end of the day on Friday, December 13.

Folkmoot’s Queen Auditorium contains more of Howard’s paintings on display. For each of those pieces sold, she pledges a percentage to Folkmoot USA. Donations to the organization are also welcome.
