Artists along Depot Street will hold December on Depot on Saturday, December 10, from 4–8 p.m. The work of more than a hundred artists and artisans will be for sale in this two-block section of studios and galleries in the River Arts District.

“There’s something magical about visiting when lights are twinkling and people are mingling up and down the streets,” says Julie Bell, a mixed media artist at Stories and Whimsies at 375 Depot Street. “Each studio has a different vibe—the old warehouses, art and creations, snacks and the hum of activity.”

Bell uses paper, wire and found objects for her whimsical creations. Visitors can also expect to find paintings, sculpture, jewelry, textiles, glass, pottery, journals, pysanky eggs and more at the various participating studios.

“This is a chance for us to invite friends, collectors and visitors into a relaxed holiday setting,” says Mary Carol Koester of Azalea Bindery. “Folks can see our new work and choose a special gift for someone they love.”

Koester trained with a master restoration/conservation binder and has been a book binder herself for 15 years, spending the last two in the Pink Dog Creative studios. Besides library-bound journals with silk or linen covers, Coptic stitch guest books and long-stitch goatskin journals, Koester also offers photo frames, note pads and treasure boxes.

“Visitors can find gifts for themselves and loved ones from any medium,” Bell says, “and from established to emerging artists. We invite everyone to take this time to shop and visit in a festive atmosphere with local creations around every turn.”
