Cathie Anders Fitzjohn, artist
For the month of August, Woolworth Walk will feature local artists Cynthia Decker and Cathie Anders Fitzjohn in the FW Gallery. Fitzjohn works with brightly colored glass and Decker is a digital artist who creates imaginative 3D renderings using software.
Fitzjohn was an illustrator for many years before discovering glass in 1980. She has created architectural pieces for homes all across the East Coast and she currently works with kiln-formed glass or fused glass. “I am trying to select pieces that show a diversity in techniques and subject matter, from my whimsical birds to my multilayered landscapes,” she says.
Decker’s mother taught computer science at a local community college, so she had early access to computers in her home and started drawing on an Apple II computer when she was 13 years old. She discovered 3D software in 1998 and has been creating art in this medium ever since. “None of the places in my artwork are real,” she says on her website, “although some may have been inspired by real places. The worlds in my gallery exist only in my imagination, and hopefully now, in yours as well.”
Woolworth Walk is located at 25 Haywood Street in downtown Asheville. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 828.254.9234 or visit WoolworthWalk.com.
