Tryon Painters and Sculptors’ (TP&S’) fifth exhibit of the year, Visual Vibrations, will be on display until Saturday, September 26. As with each of the eight member exhibitions that TP&S holds throughout the year, gallery visitors are invited to select their favorite piece of art and vote for the People’s Choice Award. After the first week of the exhibition, the votes are counted and the People’s Choice award is announced. The winning artist makes a statement about the piece and receives recognition in publications and social media. Member artists may submit one piece for each show.
Denise Cwik received the People’s Choice award in July for her colored pencil work, Memories. “I love drawing with colored pencils on drafting film,” Cwik says. “The texture of the paper is perfect for drawing flowers and their velvety surface. I personally find dying flowers as beautiful as those naturally in full bloom. The viewer can see that the culmination of a beautiful life still has grace and beauty at the end.”
TP&S’ next exhibit, Chasing the Light, opens Saturday, October 3, with a reception from 5–7 p.m., and will run through November 7. Member exhibits are not juried and showcase some of the most captivating works from emerging and established artists in our region. Titles and themes for each exhibition are suggested and agreed upon by members of TP&S, a nonprofit founded in 1968.
While viewing the exhibitions, visitors are welcome to stop in the Gallery Store. Approximately 110 of TP&S’s 308 artist members have work available for purchase in the store. Artwork in gallery exhibits is also for sale, with a range of price points and a variety of mediums.
The Tryon Painters and Sculptors gallery, gift shop and classrooms are located at 78 North Trade Street, Tryon. Hours are Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tryon Painters & Sculptors stays open until 7 p.m. during the town’s 4th Friday of each month.
