AmiciMusic Showcases the Power of the Piano Duo

It’s rare to find a piano duo in which both members attended Harvard Law School. That’s the case with Daniel Weiser and Philip Liston-Kraft. The musicians will bring twin pianos to life in a program called Two-Piano Power on Friday, November 18, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, November 19, at 2 p.m., featuring some of the most passionate duets by Rachmaninoff, Arensky and Saint- Saëns, among others.

Finding a pair of quality grand pianos is the main obstacle to performing two-piano literature. This area is fortunate to have a private home that offers two nine-foot concert grand pianos from the late 19th century. Homeowners Daniel Angerstein and Jerry Schultz have been hosting AmiciMusic and other chamber music concerts for several years, but have only recently acquired their second Knabe grand piano. Read the complete story of their musical home.

“There is nothing quite like the power of sound that can come from two pianos in the same room,” says Weiser, “especially one with the intimate and warm acoustics of this beautiful home, perched high atop a mountain surrounded by lush trees and incredible views.”

Following on the heels of these performances, the duo will return to the confines of a single piano for two high-energy concerts called Four-Hand Ferocity. The first is Saturday, November 19, at 7 p.m. at Isis Restaurant and Music Hall. Only 50 seats are available at $20 with advance booking at isisasheville.com strongly recommended. The next performance is set for Sunday, November 20, at 2 p.m. at All Souls Episcopal Cathedral in Biltmore Village. General admission is $20; church members pay $15 and children 18 and under are admitted free.

Seating is by reservation only for the house concerts at 1998 Randy Drive in Hendersonville. Tickets are $35 and include light food and drinks. To learn more or purchase tickets to any of these performances, visit amicimusic.org or contact Dan Weiser at daniel@amicimusic.org or 802.369.0856.
